Just finished on the weekend is our latest design and installation for Cadoxton Primary School in Barry. The team at Cadoxton wanted a restaurant experience for their young students, turning the existing dining hall into a more grown up, rustic eaterie!
It all began with a brief from the team of what their hopes were for the space, their budget and of course, timescale. It was tight on time and budget but we were confident we could achieve both! Sound was also an issue with an echo even when you were whispering! A bit frightening for their 4 year olds, just starting school.
Here are the initial design ideas further to the team brief. Moodboards are a great way of showing the theme or feel of the space. Then we have the plans and elevations to make sure it all fits and will work and to further explain the design.
So design solutions were called for. Firstly, a new suspended ceiling with sound baffling and new acoustic flooring to help banish that echo! This also has the added bonus of keeping things warm, so might even help with heating costs!
Big thanks to HCF Furniture, who made all the booths and delivered to a tight deadline, Pipedream Furniture, who pulled it out the bag and got all the tables and benches to us in superfast time! All the guys with Paul at Intermech Ltd, who did the fitout which included suspended ceiling, new flooring, decorations, electrics, sound system and install. You all delivered on time which is everything you want from contractors and suppliers, as an interior designer. I look forward to working with you all again, a great bunch of professionals!
