Transforming an Unused Space

The brief was to turn this fantastic unused space into a new headquarters for an amazing local Bristol company. More on that later! Here’s the space I have to play with!

Dilapidated room with peeling yellow walls, shopping cart, fire extinguishers, construction materials, and barred windows letting light in.

Safety First in Design

When designing this commercial space, we had to consider Part B Fire Regulations for capacity. We also looked at travel distances to the nearest fire exits.

Safety is paramount in both commercial and residential design. Aesthetics are just one part of the equation!

For example, the flooring needed a level of slip resistance to comply with Health & Safety Laws. Additionally, the toilet layouts had to meet building regulations, as did the overall layout.

The Design Process

Understanding Client Needs

Before we dive into design, we take the time to understand our client's needs. This step is crucial! We gather insights about their vision, preferences, and any specific requirements they may have.

Concept Development

Once we have a clear understanding, we move on to concept development. This is where creativity meets functionality. We sketch out ideas, create mood boards, and explore different layouts.

Material Selection

Choosing the right materials is essential. We consider sustainability, durability, and aesthetics. Our goal is to select materials that not only look great but also stand the test of time.
